Guidelines on Course Registration and Completion
1. Credits Required per Semester (Article 32, Guidelines on Curriculum Management)
Department of Medical Sciences, School of Medicine: less than 10 credits
(Exception: With the recommendation from the dean of the department and the approval from the President of Pusan National University, students may take up to 12 credits per semester.)
Graduate School of the Department of Convergence Medical Sciences: less than 10 credits
(Exception: With the recommendation from the dean of the department and the approval from the President of Pusan National University, students may take up to 12 credits per semester.)
2. Completion of Courses
Limitation on Credit Recognition (Article 6, Guidelines on Curriculum Management)
Once a student completes a course and earns credit from it during his/her master’s program, the student shall not be given recognition if he/she completes the same course during the doctorate programs. Any credits earned by double recognition from the same course shall be nullified.
- To all advisors: please check if the courses your students are about to register are different, distinct courses from the courses students have already earned credits from. No student should suffer from the negligence of their advisors.
Research Courses (Article 37, Guidelines on Curriculum Management)
- Only 1 research courses may be registered per semester.
- Research courses should be registered in order until the final semester.
(I.e. master’s → 3rd and 4th semester, doctorate → 2nd, 3rd, 4th semester. Courses will be canceled if ineligible student is registered.) - Advisors shall be responsible for research course. However, if the advisor cannot be in charge of the course due to inevitable reasons, other advisors from relevant fields shall be responsible.
Research Ethics and Research Management Courses (Article 38, Guidelines on Curriculum Management)
For master’s and doctorate program students of graduate school of PNU, these courses are mandatory and thus required for graduation. However, if students have completed these courses during the master’s program and have continued to doctorate program in our university, they do not need to take these courses again.
3. Scope of recognition (Article 54 clause 4, Guidelines on Curriculum Management)
If students have completed the master’s program with more credits than required and have entered the doctorate program at the same department, additional credits earned beyond required credits shall be counted toward credits for doctorate program under the approval from both the dean and the advisor.
※ If the title of the completed course has changed as the student enters the doctorate program, then the course credits will be counted after the department confirms that the previously-completed course and the course with changed title are equivalent courses.

5. Important notes for the registration of courses
- Students must register research courses under their advisors. If the advisor cannot be in charge of the course due to inevitable reasons, students should register for research courses of advisors from relevant fields.
- Please enter course code and class accurately and double check if they match the name of the course.
- Registration must be completed by the students themselves, and students shall be responsible for the result of the registration.
- If any mistakes on course registration are found after the correction period is over, those mistakes are irreversible and thus are not subject to change or cancellation.
- New course offered:
- Name of the course: Special lectures on bioethics
- For: all graduate students from all graduate schools who plan to research on human or human-materials. (If the student has completed this course during the master’s, then he/she is exempted from this course during the doctorate program.)
- Total hours: 8 (2 hours x 4 lectures)
- Semesters opened: 1st and 2nd
- Evaluation: Satisfactory / Unsatisfactory; no credits recognized.
